BENGALURU: Bengaluru’s infamous traffic snarls were at their worst display on Thursday as a JD(S) rally in the heart of the city choked the central business district for nearly eight hours.

The traffic snarls that began at 9.30am continued till almost 5.30pm as JD(S) workers from other parts of the state descended in busloads at the Palace Grounds, the venue of the party convention.

Ambulances were seen caught in the massive jams that affected the arterial Ballari Road, Palace Road and Jayamahal Road. Smaller roads too were caught in a traffic mess as commuters sought alternative routes. Movement of traffic along Palace Road was further hindered as some cutouts put up by the party fell on the road.

The protest by anganwadi workers at Freedom Park also added to the snarls till evening though the strike was called off later.
