The Bengaluru City Police department’s social media interactions have always garnered a lot of attention for their popular approach. They are now doing more to strike a chord with the young generation.

Their Twitter handles and Facebook pages are laden with sarcasm and puns. For instance, @BlrCityPolice on Wednesday tweeted about police nabbing a notorious gang. “This notorious gang were wanted in several robbery cases. Its safe to say, better SLATE than never” was the caption they gave, referring to the visual familiar to followers of American crime shows on TV in which the accused pose for police mugshots, holding a slate with their name and case number or other such detail.

Another one, goes: “Once you open the fraud gate, we’ll ensure you hold the gate.” accompanied with the photo of a man holding a slate board.

The department has now gone one step ahead in reaching their message across to youngsters, in its bid to talk about road safety. In a reference from the popular HBO series, ‘Game of Thrones’, a tweet from the Bengaluru City Police department carries a picture of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) from the series, first without helmet and then with a helmet.

The caption reads,

“What Jon Knows now......

99% : Nothing

1% : Road Safety”

The tweet refers to the popular dialogue ‘You Know Nothing, Jon Snow’, said by the wildling character Ygritte to the man she fell in love with in the TV show.

Bengaluru City Police has used the popular meme to make the use of wearing helmets popular and ti impress upon the young, hip crowd the importance of following road safety rules.

Twitterati were thrilled at this popular approach used by Bengaluru police and actively responded to the Tweet. One user replied to the post, arguing that the cops had got the image wrong. “Still a direwolf is a sigil of Jon Snow. Its amazing you put the dragon sigil of Targaryans,” the tweet said, referring to the logo used on Jon Snow’s helmet.

A white direwolf on a grey background is the sigil of the Starks of Winterfell, while the dragon sigil belongs to the Targaryens. The two are among the many warring houses in the ‘Game of Thrones’.

Not one to be outdone, @BlrCityPolice replied with a cheeky: “Oops, spoiler alert.”

Another one:

Spoiler alert indeed,

Jon Snow knows road safety though
Jon Snow knows road safety though

For those who haven’t watched Game of Thrones to the end of Season 6, where it is revealed that Jon Snow is not the son of Eddard of House Stark, whose sigil is the direwolf, but born to Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.

Fans are anxiously awaiting Season 7’s release to see which way Jon Snow would in fact go.
