BENGALURU: For children visiting Cubbon Park on the eve of Children’s Day, there was a lot to cherish.
Makkala Habba, an event organised by the Department of Women and Children Development, drew a large number of children here. The event which started at Bal Bhavan on November 11 will conclude on Tuesday. The fest has expanded over the years. What was once a two-day long fest is now four days long.
The park is adorned with stalls, exhibits and performances for children. Vishvini, a parent who attended Makkala Habba with her children, said, “This is a cultural event. I am glad that my children are here.”
Performers dressed as dolls danced as people played flutes and drums. School children from other districts came to perform for events.

The NCC stall at the event saw good footfall. Children flocked here and at the ‘Know Your Army’ stall to see various models of weapons that were on display. Eesha, a class 8 student, said , “ I learnt about careers in the military and saw models of some weapons. I found this festival educative.”

Students can also look forward to participating in traditional sports such as mud wrestling, clay modelling, quiz and storytelling. A photography and painting exhibition and a group tabla event is part of the habba as well. A mobile library was making rounds in the park too. The Horticulture Department has erected floral replicas of the Taj Mahal and Lotus Temple among other structures.
