BENGALURU: The 26-year-old Nepali girl who was allegedly gangraped in Anekal has a long road to recovery as she has extensive orthopaedic injuries and also requires psychological intervention. The fractures in the left hip, pelvis and both forearms will require time to heal, doctors said. Compounding the problem are contractures -- a condition of shortening and hardening of muscles, tendons, or
other tissue, often leading to deformity and rigidity of joints.

Dr K S Manjunath, medical superintendent, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, said, “Currently, we are trying out the first level of treatment, which is traction. We have put traction (weights) on both the limbs. We will check if the correction happens in seven to eight days and then decide if she requires surgical intervention.”

She has been given a unit of blood due to anaemia and also been provided vitamins. “According to our psychiatrist, since she is still coping with physical injuries, he hasn’t gone too far with psychological intervention. But his initial assessment says that she has a feeling of loneliness and is also depressed. The
psychiatrist has put her on anti-depressants,” Manjunath said.

On the time needed for full recovery, he said, “It is difficult to predict that as there are more than one issues to be dealt with. It may vary from weeks to months. We have to put her back on her feet and she should be able to walk upright again.” Last Thursday, the woman was gang-raped in an abandoned building in Avadadevanahalli village.

Police still in dark about  attackers
Bengaluru: A week after the brutal gang rape of a Nepali woman came to notice, police continue to grope in the dark. On Wednesday, Anekal police paraded some suspects in front of the victim for identification, but there has been no breakthrough. “We do not have any evidence or breakthrough in this case yet. Based on the description of the physical appearance of the culprits given by the victim, we picked up some suspects from the nearby areas. However, she denied involvement of any of them in the crime,” said police. “We also showed her photographs of many people but there has been no result so far,” they added. The victim is currently recovering at a government hospital.
