BENGALURU: Some people, who were in the queue, even demanded that token distribution continue as they had come from distant places.

Syeda Unnisa, who sustained injuries, said, “I was about to collect the token around 9.30am. Women police constables, who rushed here, started beating us with lathis. I ran away from the scene and lost my mobile. Four neighbours and myself had come from Nelamangala on Wednesday evening.

We slept in a vacant site near the hall. It was the time I was coming to receive the tokens.” Rizwana Famida, a resident of Doddabasthi near Kengeri, said that there were about 2,000 people on Wednesday and more than 3,000 people gathered on Thursday, adding to the commotion and causing the stampede.
