Manholes to be repaired in phased manner: Bengaluru Development Minister K J George

BENGALURU: With road expansion and other projects ruining manholes in the city, steps are being taken to elevate them to road height or shift them wherever possible to prevent water logging and sewage run-off on the streets, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said here on Thursday. Responding to a question by MLC Tara Anuradha (BJP), he said there were 1,50,600 manholes in city limits.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is regularly taking up works to repair dilapidated manholes, he said. He said 7,115 manholes were repaired or shifted in 2014-15, 10,090 in 2015-16 and 15,900 in 2016-17, he said.In places where it is required, the manholes will be shifted in a phased manner, he said, adding that along TenderSURE roads, underground drainage (UGD) lines have been shifted below pedestrian paths.
