Elevated corridors: Citizens to hold social media campaign

BENGALURU: A citizen group is planning a social media campaign on Sunday afternoon to protest against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s decision to not include them in a meeting on the elevated corridors project.

A meeting has been scheduled for Monday morning that would be chaired by the CM and Deputy CM Dr Parameshwara regarding the project. Srinivas Alavilli of the citizen group Citizens for Bengaluru, via a post on Facebook, called on people to join a social media campaign planned between 3-4 pm on Sunday. The campaign intends to put across people’s opinions regarding the project to the CM, in a ‘new, innovative’ way.

“As we are not invited to the meeting, we have to let the CM know what we think about it. The government keeps on doing things in their own way without public consultation. So, we have to find new and innovative methods to get our word across. Today (Saturday), we are gathering as many people as we can for tomorrow’s campaign, Alavilli said.

Alavilli added that as the CM is grappling with many issues concerning the entire state, he may not know the citizens’ viewpoint about the project. “Ideally, the public should know of a big project before it is finalised so that we can give our opinions. Now, we are always reacting to announcements. It is very frustrating to be an active citizen with no active voice in the govt,” he added.
