Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation finds bidder to revive Kengeri Lake

BENGALURU:The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has finally found a bidder to help it revive the 32-acre Kengeri Lake. This followed three rounds of issuance of tenders and an extension period given during the third round.  Both Kengeri Lake and the Veerasandra Lake in Electronics City are being developed by BMRCL as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities. The Kengeri Metro station of Phase-II will be located opposite the lake.

Speaking to Express, BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer U A Vasanth Rao said, “The Letter of Assent has been issued to MR Pro Tech Private Limited on May 31. The time period of completion is 12 months.”
BMRCL will be investing `8.75 crore to rejuvenate and develop the lake, said an official source. BMRCL MD Mahendra Jain said,”There were some issues and encroachments in case of Kengeri Lake. After these were cleared with assistance of civil bodies, Ramkey Envro Pvt Ltd was selected to prepare the Detailed Project Report after a tendering process.”

Cleaning up of the lake, maintaining good water quality apart from providing boating facility for public are among the aspects that will be taken care of now.Rao said, “After development of the lake, either BMRCL will maintain it, or have it maintained through CSR initiatives of corporates.”Meanwhile, the Veerasandra Lake spread across 16 acres has been adopted by Titan Industries. The cost of development is `12 crore.
