BENGALURU: High drama prevailed in front of the residence of former Union minister K H Muniyappa in Sanjaynagar after two brothers attempted suicide by pouring petrol and trying to immolate themselves, on Sunday.

The security personnel at the premises alerted Sanjaynagar police, who rushed to the spot and took both of them along with their family members, to the police station. However, no case has been filed regarding this.A senior police officer said: “The brothers, Srinivas Raj and Muniraj, residents of Venkatala in Yelahanka, have alleged that K V Ramaprasad, who is close to Muniyappa, had forged documents pertaining to 1.5 acres of land which belonged to the brothers. A case was filed against Ramaprasad in 2007 and Yelahanka police had submitted a report to the court since it was a property dispute.”

The officer said the brothers had repeatedly met Muniyappa requesting his help to get their land back. Muniyappa had reportedly assured them that he would solve the issue after speaking to Ramaprasad.  Later, Muniyappa is alleged to have favoured Ramaprasad in getting the land registered in his name and not helping the brothers.Around 10 am on Sunday, the brothers along with their family members, came in front of Muniyappa’s house when the latter was about to leave his residence.

The brothers reportedly created a ruckus by tearing their clothes and started arguing with Muniyappa. Meanwhile, one of them threatened that he would end their lives and started pouring petrol.
The police took them away from the scene and Muniyappa convinced the family members of the brothers and sent them back.

Muniyappa later told The New Indian Express, “I had no connection with the dispute. Someone sent the brothers to immolate themselves in front of my residence. It is politically motivated and an attempt to damage my political reputation. They had met me asking to solve the dispute and since it is in the court, I had asked them to wait for a while.”

Speaking to the reporters, one of the brothers, Muniraj said: “It is almost 11 years since K V Ramaprasad tried to grab our land by forging the documents. Since we had original documents, we approached the court before filing a case in Yelahanka. Still, we are being harassed and so we decided to end our lives before the residence of Muniyappa who has to solve the issue.”
