Burglars tie, gag 85-year-old woman in Bengaluru, escape with gold worth Rs 10 lakh

A gang of three burglars barged into a bungalow, tied up and gagged an elderly woman and robbed gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh.

BENGALURU: A gang of three burglars barged into a bungalow, tied up and gagged an elderly woman and robbed gold jewellery worth Rs10 lakh. The incident took place at Doddabommasandra on Saturday night. Police suspect that known people may be involved in the crime.

A senior police officer said the incident took place around 1.30 am when the gang entered Mukambika farmhouse where the bungalow is located.Ila Chandrashekar (85) was sleeping on the ground floor while her 52-year-old specially-abled son Ajith was sleeping on the first floor.  

The burglars broke open the rear door to gain entry and tied her legs and gagged her. They then ransacked the house and robbed gold jewellery and `30,000 cash before fleeing the scene. Ila managed to free herself around 3am and went to the first floor to Ajith, who was unaware of the incident as the burglars did not go to the first floor.

Ila then called her relatives who live near Mekhri Circle. They rushed to the bungalow and alerted Vidyaranayapura police. Ila told police that three of the burglars spoke Kannada and even mentioned names of her family members. They also asked her for a particular finger ring as they did not see it on her.
