BENGALURU: A 32-year-old labourer died after he accidentally fell from the first floor of an under-construction residential building in Annapurneshwarinagar on Magadi Road. The incident took place on Thursday and he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The police were alerted about the incident by the hospital staff. The deceased has been identified as Ashwath Mandal, a native of West Bengal who had come to the city a few years ago along with his relatives. His wife along with the children live in their native place. Mandal was staying alone in a shed at the site.

A senior police officer said the incident took place around afternoon on Thursday and Ashwath along with other workers, was doing centring work at the site which is located in Gidadakovinahalli, when he lost balance and fell. He was rushed to Victoria hospital where he died on Monday evening.

The construction site belongs to Balu, a civil contractor and he is constructing a two-storeyed house. Preliminary investigations revealed that no safety measures were provided to the workers and thus a case of negligence has been filed against Balu, and further investigations are on. The postmortem is yet to be conducted as the deceased’s relatives were expected to arrive from West Bengal, the officer added.
