Koppal Medical College refuses to admit students this year

In 2017, an inspection found KIMS unsuitable on various aspects and issued an order on May 31.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court refused to allow Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences to admit 150 students to its MBBS course for the academic year 2018-19. The request was rejected by a division bench of Justice H G Ramesh and Justice Mohammad Nawaz.

In 2017, an inspection found KIMS unsuitable on various aspects and issued an order on May 31. It was found that KIMS was 37 per cent deficient in faculty. There was also non-availability of speech therapy and inadequate teaching staff. KIMS has only 305 beds as against the required 400 beds. Only 93 para-medical and non-teaching staffers are available as against the requirement of 184.

As far as the out-patient department is concerned, the report said on the day of assessment there were 545 patients as against the requirement of 900. No pantry was available in any of the wards and only 12 beds were available in casualty as against the required 20 beds.
