A police official said that CCB sleuths were on the lookout for Ravi and on Wednesday, they received information that he was moving in an SUV at Uttarahalli Main Road on Wednesday afternoon. Around 2.45 pm, a CCB police team intercepted his vehicle but he opened fire at the police team. The police, however, chased him and stopped his vehicle forcefully. Again, he shot at the police but missed the target. In self-defence, inspectors Prakash and Mallikarjun shot at him and bullets pumped into Ravi’s abdomen and right leg. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital on Mysuru Road. His condition is said to be out of danger.

“Cycle Ravi has been an active rowdy from over 20 years. Rowdysheet was opened against him in Banashankari police station in 1998 and since then he is involved in more than two dozens of cases. He was involved in supari killings, kidnapping and extortions,” an official said.

Ravi, an accused in rowdy Katriguppe Linga murder case that took place in April 2010, had surrendered before the court after a few days, fearing that he will be killed in a police encounter. He was also involved in the murder case that had shocked the city when he along with his gang members had hacked financier and BJP worker Chandrashekhar Babu, who had gone for a morning walk in Lal Bagh along with his family members, to death in April 2009. Days after the murder, his close associate Parandhama, an accused in Babu’s murder case, was killed in a police encounter.
