BENGALURU: Madiwala police have arrested a 21-year-old cook for committing burglary at his employer's residence and escaping with ornaments worth Rs 90 lakh. After this, the accused Akhilesh Kumar fled to his hometown Madhubani in Bihar where he buried the loot in a vacant site next to his house.A senior police officer said Akhilesh had come to the city two years ago and was working at the residence of Satyaprakash, an industrialist.

Just a few months ago, Akhilesh asked for his salary to be raised but when Satyaprakash did not agree to that, he went in search of a better paying job to Mumbai. However, when he could not bag a job in Mumbai, Akhilesh returned to Bengaluru to work for Satyaprakash again. Satyaprakash’s family agreed to take him back and also provided him with an accommodation on their terrace.

On October 17, Satyaprakash and his family went for shopping to Koramangala. This is when Akhilesh broke open the rear door to gain entry into the house. He ransacked the bedrooms and stole half-a-kg of gold and diamond ornaments and other valuables, all worth Rs 90 lakh. On returning home, Satyaprakash found the bedrooms ransacked and immediately checked the CCTV footage and saw that it was Akhilesh's doing.

Satyaprakash went to the terrace to look for Akhilesh, but its door was locked. Even his phone was switched off. Satyaprakash then filed a case with Madiwala police. A special team that was formed to nab Akhilesh rushed to Madhubani and nabbed an unsuspecting Akhilesh there. Police said that Akhilesh confessed to the burglary and told the police where he had hidden the ornaments.

Police also learnt that Akhilesh had reached Yeshwanthpur railway station to travel to his native but did not buy a ticket as he feared he would have to show his identification documents and would be caught if police tracked it.
