Bangalore University and BCU differences ‘break open’

BENGALURU:  The fight between parent Bangalore University and the Bengaluru Central university (BCU) over the ownership of buildings located in the Central College campus is still going on. This time, BCU authorities on Wednesday allegedly went to the extent of breaking open the lock of one of the rooms where answer scripts have been kept.“On Wednesday morning, the BCU authorities force opened the room where we store answer scripts. The re-valuation process will begin in a couple of days and what if a script goes missing,” questioned the registrar, evaluation for BU Prof C Shivaraju.

When questioned about this, the authorities of BCU denied the allegation. “We need to start courses and classes for the current academic year for which we need space. Specially, being a new university, we are running short of space to expand the varsity. We did not break the door, we just opened it as the repair work is going on,” said Prof Ramachandre Gowda, Registrar of BCU.

According to BCU officials, BU had promised to hand over all the buildings at Central College campus which they are using for evaluation and other purposes since June 30. “They did not hand over the buildings even after the deadline and we were forced to take possession or we would have been forced to stage an agitation,” the Registrar said. Meanwhile, he added that the answer scripts kept in the room were related to the 1993-94 batch and had nothing to do with the current semester exams.

But BU officials say, though the university is trifurcated, as per the government order and directions, the parent university had to look into the evaluation and announcement of results for the next four years till the existing batch of students pass out. “They are unnecessarily troubling us even after knowing that we are doing evaluation work for the students of colleges under their jurisdiction. They are well aware about the lack of facilities to evaluate and store answer scripts at Jnana Bharathi campus. They should adjust and cooperate until we shift evaluation branch to JB campus,” said Shivaraju.
