BENGALURU: Reformed don and social worker N Muthappa Rai on Saturday appeared before Central Crime Branch officials to give an explantation for owning weapons, a senior police officer said.

Officials from Organised Crime Wing had issued a notice on Friday directing him to appear before them. The notice was issued after a video of his family performing a puja in front of a cache of arms and weapons on the occasion of Ayudha Puja went viral on social media.

Rai, founder of pro-Kannada organisation Jaya Karnataka, came to the CCB office at Chamarajpet and gave an explantation to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Organised Crime Wing) V Mariyappa and submitted the requisite documents for the weapons displayed in the video.

A senior police officer from CCB said, “Rai and his gunman have given a statement about possessing the weapons. They said that they don’t own the weapons but had leased the same from a company. They are yet to provide documents detailing this arrangement and have asked for some time. His gunman will appear before the CCB on Monday to provide further clarification.”
