BENGALURU: At least 12 dogs were allegedly poisoned by a few miscreants in BTM Layout 2nd stage on Sunday evening.According to members of Prani Daya Sangha, residents of 26th Cross found 12 dogs wailing in pain. The organisation received a call around 7.30pm from residents claiming that a few miscreants came in a car and gave some food to the street dogs on that road.“It is normal for people to serve leftover food, biscuits and bread to dogs on this road. There has never been any trouble with the dogs in this area. We thought it is someone from the area who fed the dogs,” Shantala, a resident, said.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a member of the Sangha said that immediately after eating the food, the dogs began to wail in pain and were rolling on the road. The Sangha members shifted the dogs to a veterinary hospital. The condition of four dogs is said to be critical while the other dogs were recovering. The food sample has been collected and sent for examination.

A senior officer at Mico Layout police station said that though they were informed about the incident, a complaint has not been registered regarding the same. The residents themselves have volunteered to try and collect CCTV footage in the area to identify the car in which the miscreants came. Police, however, said that they will definitely help the residents once an official complaint has been made.

A resident of the 26th Cross said that the stray dogs had never bothered or bitten anybody.
A resident said that the dogs, however, barked at strangers in the night. He added that the suspects might have poisoned the dogs so that they would not bark at them if they attempted to burgle houses in the area.
Two months ago, 30 stray dogs were poisoned to death at Telecom Layout in Kodigehalli. A complaint was filed at Kodigehalli police station but so far, the miscreants have not been traced.
