Miscreants waylay, drive away vehicle transporting tomatoes to market in Bengaluru

According to the police, the farmer was transporting his produce from Hiriyur town in Chitradurga to the Kolar market.

BENGALURU:  A jeep containing 210 trays of tomatoes was stolen near the CMTI Junction in RMC Yard police station limits Saturday night.

A 38-year-old driver from Challakere in Chitradurga and his friend were transporting tomatoes to the market in Kolar in a jeep. The duo had stopped to have tea.

When they returned, the jeep was missing. They had left their phones inside the vehicle. The estimated cost of the tomatoes is around Rs 1.5 lakh, while the jeep is around Rs 3.25 lakh. A case of theft has been registered based on a complaint by A Shivanna, the owner-cum-driver of the vehicle. Shivanna and his friend Mallesh left in their vehicle to supply the veggies to Kolar. 

The duo stopped the jeep near the CMTI junction as they had to take a left towards BEL Road. They had tea at a roadside stall.

“The accused stole the vehicle because it had tomatoes. The complainant had observed suspicious behaviour of the people in an SUV that was parked behind the jeep. The vehicle is registered in Tumakuru RTO. 

The incident happened between 10.15 pm and 10.30 pm Saturday,” said an officer. The police are checking the CCTV camera footage in the vicinity.
