BJP assails BJD over fiscal mismanagement and unemployment

Over 15 lakh youths who have registered their names in employment exchanges are left jobless despite huge vacancies in different departments.

BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Tuesday slammed the ruling BJD for claiming credit over the ever increasing size of the State budget year after year while the reality on the ground is different due to utter mismanagement of the financial resources.

In its political resolutions passed at the State executive committee meeting at Kuranga near Niali in Cuttack district, the BJP said the Naveen Patnaik led State government has the unique distinction of spending less than the budgeted provision resulting in surrender of huge amount in the past 22 years.

Criticising the government for the decline in capital expenditure, the resolution said the State has lost the capacity to attract private investments due to deficiency in infrastructure and logistic supports. The intrinsic weakness in the economy of the State has been reflected in the low wage rate and depressing employment opportunities. Over 15 lakh youths who have registered their names in employment exchanges are left jobless despite huge vacancies in different departments.

Dubbing the State government as “a host of contradiction and a plethora of confusion”, the resolution said the cheerful assessment of a revenue surplus State has no meaning when unemployment is at an alarming level and the youths are migrating to other states in search of jobs.

Highlighting the shortcomings of the government, the resolution said the 5-T scheme has proved to be a big hoax. When the education system of the state has collapsed due to dearth of teachers, the government is self patting on the school transformation programme. Of the 6,193 government high schools of the State, over 1,800 schools have no headmaster, it added.

In another resolution, the BJP said, all the central assistance coming to the State is being looted by BJD party workers turned contractors. The saffron party expressed its concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and health services, costly power tariff, exploitation of farmers by rice millers and misutilisation of women SHGs for political purpose. In a separate resolution, it praised PM Narendra Modi for making Odisha proud by nominating Droupadi Murmu, a daughter of the State as Presidential candidate.
