BHUBANESWAR: The army officer and his fiancée, who were allegedly assaulted by cops during their visit to Bharatpur police station to lodge complaint over a road rage incident on September 15, on Thursday appeared before the judicial commission headed by Justice Chittaranjan Das (retired) and recorded their statements.

However, suspended IIC Dinakrushna Mishra and four other personnel of the police station were represented by their lawyers. Secretary of the commission Suvendu Mohanty said the panel had summoned 16 people including the army officer, his fiancée, the accused police officers and some students to appear before it. Several of them including the army officer and his fiancée appeared personally while others were represented by their lawyers. The next date of hearing has been fixed on November 30.

Mohanty said the commission may visit Bharatpur police station to make an on-the-spot assessment. The commission has received over 500 affidavits in connection with the incident. It will start the process of receiving testimony after verifying the affidavits.
