BHUBANESWAR: The state government has sought urgent intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the rescue of Adarsha Kumar Behera, a resident of Jagatsingpur district, who has been held captive by rebel forces in war-hit African nation Sudan.
After coming to know about Behera’s abduction from media reports, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi instructed senior officials to initiate measures for the safe return of the youth from Sudan.
Following the CM’s directive, the director of Intelligence wrote to the MEA, requesting prompt intervention for Behera’s rescue. The Resident Commissioner in New Delhi has also requested the ministry to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Sudan to trace Behera and bring him back safely.
A resident of Kotakana village in Tirtol, Behera had been working as a machine operator at a plastic factory in Sudan since 2022. His family was recently informed that he had gone missing and his current whereabouts remain uncertain.
