When a leading watch company takes it upon itself to spread the message of time management, that too for negligible monetary benefits, it makes you want to take the brand seriously; primarily for its endeavour.

The World of Titan in Purusaiwalkam conducted its first Sudoku Competition for school children in 2005. And since then it has not looked back.

“We started it as an initiative to offer students an exciting way to keep the mind active. We chose students from classes 9 -12, as it also gave them an opportunity to relax after the rigorous school routine.

Sudoku is all about time and precision and so is Titan,” said Chitra, organiser, at the sixth edition of the Sudoku Contest that was held recently at Purusaiwalkam.

The contest saw 53 teams from the city, with four students participating in each team. They were given an hour to solve four puzzles — one easy one, two medium ones and one hard one. “Earlier there would just be one team that would fall within the half hour bracket, but now more teams are able to finish the puzzle within half hour. This time for instance, we had a team finish it in 16 minutes,” she said and added, “There is a gradual increase in the participation of corporation schools, but they are still less in number.

The World of Titan Purusaiwalkam started this exclusively for its customers around this area. With years, we are getting registrations from a number of new schools as well.” The chief guest for the event was Vandana, Founder of Banyan, who extended her encouragement to participants. PSBB Millennium emerged the winner of the sixth edition of the Sudoku Contest and won Fast Track watches from The World of Titan worth ` 1,000, a rolling trophy and certificates. The second place was taken by CSI Bain, which also won Fast Track watches from the showroom worth Rs 800, trophies and certificates. The third place was bagged by Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram, which also won Fast Track watches along with trophies and certificates.

The World of Titan Purusaiwalkam has conducted various programmes like drawing competitions and calendar making competitions, the proceeds from which have been directed to CRY.
