Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited is presenting Silapathigaram - A unique dance musical presentation with leading dancers of Chennai like Uma Murali Krishna, Lavanya and Muralidharan. Some of the special features of the musical include the musical being digitally recorded; it consists of huge, colorful and attractive settings done by Mr Bala who is working with Kalaignar TV and has worked in movies. The performance will consist of thirty dance artistes on the stage in rich costumes.

The concept, music, choreography and direction for the musical are by Madurai R Muralidaran and Chitra Muralidaran. There are around 20 songs in the musical and renowned playback singer Smt. S Janaki, mother-in-law of dancer Uma Murali Krishna, has sung most of the songs. At the start of the press meet there was an AVP with testimonials by singers Janaki and P.B.Srinivas, actor Vineet and dancers Priyadarshini Govind and Uma Murali Krishna.

They spoke about the musical and how wonderfully it has been conceived. Dancer Muralidharan speaking on the occasion said Silapathigaram was chosen to reach a wider audience in Chennai and that the entire team has been working on the musical for the last four months. He said similar works from Broadway, and certain techniques used in productions have inspired this musical.

He said that the challenges included conveying the entire story in two hours and making the language (Tamil) easier to understand both for the dancers as well as the audience as the musical consists entirely of Tamil dialogues.

The musical boasts of mixed dance styles that include the likes of Kuchipudi and contemporary dance. Lavanya Shankar will play the role of Kannagi while Uma Murali Krishna and Muralidharan will play Madhavi and Kovalan respectively. The Chief Guests for the event are Padmashree Shobhana, actor Vineet, Dr. Padma Subramaniam and singer S. Sailaja. The musical will happen on May 26-27, 2010 at 7 PM at the Music Academy, Chennai.
