CHENNAI: The Principal Family Court in the City on Friday granted divorce to Arvind Swamy and his wife Gayathri Ramamurthy, on mutual consent.

S Meenakshi Sundaram, presiding officer of the court, said in his brief order that the divorce petition was allowed.

The marriage solemnised between the parties on June 3, 1994, at a marriage hall in Chennai according to Hindu rites and customs, which was registered before the sub-registrar, Virugambakkam, was dissolved by a decree of divorce by mutual consent, the judge said.

Following difference of opinions between the couple, they applied for divorce on mutual consent.

Arvind had agreed to make a one-time payment of Rs 75 lakh and to provide a maintenance of Rs 1 lakh per month.
