Iron rods stolen from the vehicle, police suspect hand of robbers

A 47-year-old driver was found murdered inside his lorry on the Puzhal bypass road late on Friday.

A few tonnes of iron rods were found stolen from the lorry, police said.

R Devi (47) of Muthu Kadayampatti village in  Namakkal district was found murdered in his lorry that was parked near the Madhanangkuppam flyover on the Puzhal bypass road. The lorry was reportedly loaded with about 12 tonnes of iron rods and was on its way from Gummidipoondi SIPCOT to Bengaluru.

Police said the lorry was parked towards the road leading to Puzhal when it was supposed to ply in the opposite direction - towards Tambaram. Investigation officials suspect that robbers may have intercepted the vehicle, parked it in the opposite direction before fleeing with the stolen rods. The possibility that the robbers murdered Devi elsewhere, before parking the vehicle on the bypass road is also being probed.

3 Students Go Missing

Parents of three Class IX students have filed a missing case with the police at Maduravoyal after their children did not return home from school on Friday.

Police said that after initial inquiries, they found that the students had planned their escape meticulously and had a separate set of clothes to school. The boys, whoxc were studying in a private school at Nerkundram, were seen leaving the school by some people. Police sources said that the boys feared they would fail in the recently concluded exams and escaped before receiving their report cards.

Woman Ends Life

The police in Guduvancherry on Saturday arrested the husband of 28-year-old Victoria after she reportedly committed suicide.

Police said Victoria, of Ganapathy Nagar, Guduvanchery, allegedly had an extra-marital affair with a man, who reportedly tortured her emotionally. Meanwhile, her husband Vijayakumar, came to know about the affair and picked up a fight with her. Police said they were trying to find pieces of a torn suicide note left in her house and were also looking out for the woman’s paramour.

Fire in Office Building

A fire broke out on the third floor of an 11-storey office building on Anna Salai in Teynampet around noon on Saturday.

Police said the security guard on the third floor alerted the fire department after the smoke alarm went off in the office of a Pune-based steam boiler manufacturing firm.

A staff of the company said that the UPS that supplied power to the computer systems in the office exploded after power supply was restored around noon. 

Boy Drowns in Sea

Seventeen-year-old Vineeth, who was working as a helper at the renovation site in MGR Samadhi on the Marina Beach, died after he was dragged into the sea by rough waves on Friday.

Police said he had gone with his friends to take a dip in the sea. They are investigating the case.
