The body of a four-year-old girl, who was missing since Wednesday, was found in a temple tank in Tiruvallur here on Friday.

Police said Bhavani, who was last seen playing in front of her residence in Peruncherry village near Uthukottai, had been missing since Wednesday evening.

Police suspected that the child could have slipped into the local temple tank and called in fire and rescue services personnel, who searched the tank but could not find her. Meanwhile, Ayyappa devotees spotted a body floating.

Police recovered the body and her parents identified it as that of their missing child. The body was sent for post-mortem.
