Gangster among six criminals arrested

Six history-sheeters including a notorious gangster who was allegedly involved in three murder cases were arrested along with three of his accomplices by the Anti-Gangster Squad, here on Monday.

The squad arrested Vairam alias ‘Kundrathur’ Vairam from his hideout. As many as 12 cases including three murder cases were pending against him. He reportedly hacked one Anbu of Keluthipet in 2003 and Madan, son of Anbu in 2011.

Besides, he was the prime accused in the murder of Sriperumpudur panchayat union ward member PPG Kumaran who was killed by a gang of mercenaries who hurled petrol bombs on the car in which the civic body member was travelling in 2012. Vairam was detained under Goondas Act three times. His accomplice Sam alias Samson, (28), of Perambur, was involved in two murder cases and has eight cases pending against him. He was detained under Goondas Act twice. The other two accomplices - Ghouse Badsha, (30), of Kundrathur, and Kalaimani, (27), of Vyasarpadi, were involved in the murder of Madan in 2011 and the subsequent murder of PPG Kumaran.

Two more history-sheeters - Thangamani, (41), of Perambur, and Mottu alias Sathiagiri Rao, (27), of Thirumullaivoyal, were also arrested by the squad on Monday. Thangamani, who was the accomplice of the notorious gangster, Suresh alias ‘Arcot’ Suresh was wanted in two murder cases including that of another gangster Chenna alias Chennakesavalu near the Poonamallee  Court complex in 2010.

Sathiagiri Rao was detained under Goondas Act thrice and was involved in two murder cases including that of an Advocate Sampath in 2010. The anti-Gangster Squad led by Additional Deputy Commissioner(ADC) Jayakumar had been cracking its whip on the gangs on the directions of the City Police Commissioner S George. All the arrested were grilled by the sleuths from  Central Crime Branch.
