The stay on beach mining imposed by the Government pending probe into illegal activities in beach mining has affected the livelihood of over 50000 people employed in the field, according to Beach Mineral Producers Association.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the secretary of the Association, Paul Raja, said “although we appreciate the Government’s effort to crack down on the illegal activities in beach mineral mining, there are several parties who for no wrong of theirs have been forced to endure the consequences of the actions of a few”. According to Raja, the ban has resulted in losses for several companies who had not indulged in mining.
