The Chennai Corporation launched a dengue  awareness rally at Marina and Besant Nagar recently.

The campaign was inaugurated by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy in two zones —9  and 13

The Corporation has been taking various efforts to prevent dengue including spraying of insecticides in wells, sumps, ground level and overhead tanks, besides fumigating the streets every evening and every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

The Corporation has also been clearing wastes like tyres, coconut shells, damaged plastic materials and stagnant water on the streets as they could serve as breeding ground for mosquitoes which cause dengue fever. Water passages and canals are cleaned regularly and the city Corporation has been creating awareness on dengue among school students.
