Nokia unveiled its all new Nokia Asha 501 smart phone in city on Tuesday. The three-inch touchscreen phone is priced at an affordable Rs 5,199 and comes in six different colours, four way swipe, a new ‘Fastlane’ feature for smart browsing.
“Eighty percent of the phone sales in India comes in the below Rs 6,000 range. This smart phone will give a new direction to the phones launched in this price category,” he said.
The phone comes with two screens — home and fastlane screen — which can be navigated through a swipe. While home screen displays the traditional application launcher, the fastlane screen comes with customised settings. It displays recent activity at the bottom and has Facebook ‘Whats on Your Mind’ display in the middle. The screen also allows people to post directly from Fastlane to Facebook and Twitter. At the top, there is an engagements and upcoming events box.
“The feature is specially designed for multi-tasking, keeping in mind the younger generation which wants to be up to date on social networking. With Fastlane, you can see your present, past and future, which means that you are never more than a swipe away from your favourite topics,” said the regional general manager (South).
Another key feature is the battery life. It varies between 48 days for a single sim and upto 26 days for dual sim, with a talk time of up to 17 hours. The phone comes in two parts, a removable shell and scratch resistant, tempered glass display. The handset weighs about 98 grams.
Other features include a 3.2 MP camera, digital alarm, additional memory card of 4GB which is expandable up to 32 GB, 40 free EA Games gift pack and free Facebook for 3 months for Airtel customers.
There are over 50 pre-installed apps including Facebook, Newshunt, chat services like Line, Nimbuzz and WeChat and other apps like Cricbuzz, Newshunt, GetMeRated and Twist Music that come with the phone.
