Anuvrat-Puraskar

Former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan on Sunday received the Anuvrat Puraskar 2011-12 award. The award was presented by Governor K Rosaiah.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the purpose of instituting the award was to recognise a person and motivate others.

He added that such inspiration from these great personalities would help develop a society filled with love, compassion and moral values.  Quoting Lord Mahavir, he said, “The human being is his own salvation and that is through three jewels — right faith, right knowledge and right conduct.”

Rosaiah said that there was a rapid industrialisation and expansion of knowledge, but on the other hand there was a decrease in moral and spiritual values.

“The knowledge we have gained and the advancement we have made should be for the benefit of mankind,” he said, adding that it should strengthen the bonds of unity, peace and harmony.
