Police said Srimathi and Gopinath (35) were married in 2003, and had two kids. Gopinath kept insisting that Srimathi get a share from her father who had received his retirement benefits, but she refused. On Sunday night, Gopinath beat his wife and left the house. When he returned, he saw his wife hanging and he fled the spot. A case was registered.

A Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) will probe the death a 23-year-woman married to a film dancer as she committed suicide at their house in Ayanavaram on Sunday night, vexed over her husband being a habitual drunkard.

Police said Supriya, who married Santhanabarathy (25) last year, had been objecting to her husband’s drinking habit. On Sunday night when he came home drunk, Supriya hanged herself. Her body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

SI’s murder solved

Police solved the murder of a woman SI who was killed in August 2010 while interrogating a duo. SI Kalaivani went missing on August 26, 2010. Investigations revealed that Venkatesan and his accomplice Suppan took Kalaivani in a car from Melmaruvathur. When they were near Baluchetty Chathiram, they killed her and buried her body on the Kaveripakkam river bank.
