The Madras High Court has directed the Villupuram District Collector to take action against G Ramakrishnan Reddiar, president of Keezhathaazhanur, for passing a resolution opposing erection of a transformer adjacent to his land.
The petitioner, being the president of the village panchayat, was able to pass the resolution opposing the erection of the transformer in the government land. In fact, such a resolution by the panchayat was contrary to the interest of the village people. “Hence, I am inclined to ignore the resolution. I am of the view that the district collector, being the inspector of panchayat, shall look into the resolution passed by the village panchayat opposing the erection of transformer in government land,’’ Justice D Hariparanthaman said and directed the Collector to look into the resolution and take suitable action against the petitioner in accordance with law.
The judge dismissed Reddiar’s writ petition holding that the work was being carried to erect the transformer on government land.
