Quarry supervisor crushed by lorry

A 32-year-old man from Assam was crushed under the wheels of lorry at a State-run sand quarry near Palur in Kancheepuram in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to police, Aditya, a supervisor at the quarry, was sitting on a mound of sand when a lorry that was backing up crushed him. Though the workers at the quarry tried to alert the lorry driver and Aditya, they shouts were went unheard because of the noise at the spot.

Aditya’s body was moved to the Chengalpet Government Hospital. Palur police registered a case and were investigating.

Man Held for Rape

Manikandan (28), a mechanical engineer, was arrested after he refused to marry his lover who had become pregnant in the course of their relationship.

When Anita (21) (name changed), a final year BCom student, who was six months pregnant, asked her lover Manikandan to marry her, he refused. Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with the All Women Police Station in Tambaram, who registered a case and arrested Manikandan.

He was later remanded to judicial custody.
