A tiff between a newly-married couple over a photograph posted on a social networking site ended up in the suicide of the woman here on Wednesday.
According to police, the deceased Anu (23), was married to Ramesh Babu, an employee of a private firm in Sriperumbudur, last month. Recently, Ramesh, who checked his wife’s Facebook account, was shocked to find her beside a male friend.
He raked up the issue with both families and a reconciliation meeting was held at Anu’s grandfather’s house in Avadi.
Anu, who earlier worked in an apparel designing company, said the man in the picture was her former colleague, who uploaded the picture for ‘mischief’. Ramesh, who did not buy the argument, left the house after yelling at Anu.
Dejected, Anu locked herself in a room where she hanged herself from the ceiling using her dupatta. Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
A case was registered and further investigation is on.
The police are also planning to question the male friend who uploaded the pictures. An RDO probe will be held as the woman has died within seven years of marriage.
