Suspecting affair with wife, man murders neighbour

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for killing another man whom he suspected of having an illicit affair with his wife.

Police said M Sakthivel, a resident of Alapakkam near Maduravoyal, stabbed his neighbour Sathish after finding him with his wife Bhuvaneshwari in their house around 12.30 am on Sunday.

“Sakthivel and Bhuvaneshwari had frequent quarrels due to differences of opinion between them.  On Saturday evening, the couple had a heated argument and Sakthivel left the house.

When he returned around midnight, he saw Sathish with his wife and became furious. He then stabbed him with a knife,” said a police officer.

While Sathish died on the spot, Sakthivel fled the house. The Maduravoyal police registered a murder case against Sakthivel and arrested him on Sunday. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Mob kills burglar

A 40-year-old man, arrested on charges of burglary, died while being taken to a hospital after allegedly complaining of stomach pain while in police custody in Tiruvallur district, according to police.

Ravi was caught by locals and roughed up while attempting to rob a house near Cholavaram in the wee hours of Sunday, police said.

He complained of a stomach pain in the afternoon while in the police station and was being taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, police said.

Sources said Ravi might have sustained injuries when he was beaten up by the locals.

Cholavaram police registered a case and are investigating.
