A special court in the city on Saturday issued summons to former Housing Minister and DMK leader I Periyasamy and suspended Additional Director General of Police M S Jaffer Sait, in a case connected to illegalities in acquiring residential plots from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB), which allegedly resulted in huge losses to the exchequer.
A chargesheet was filed in the case last week, which was originally registered in July 23, 2011 on the complaint of A Sankar, a former employee of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
While Sait has been named the main accused, others on the accused list include Periyasamy, former Chief Minister’s secretary K Rajamanickam and his son Durga Shankar. They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, including 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 criminal breach of trust by public servant or by banker, merchant or an agent).
The accused have to appear before the court on October 28.
