A group of visually-challenged persons blocked the Poonamallee High Road on Tuesday stressing a charter of demands mainly adequate employment opportunity for them according to their educational qualifications.

Around 9 am they squatted on the busy road at EVK Sampath Road signal forming a human chain halting the traffic. As traffic movement was blocked on both the EVK Sampath Road and the Poonamallee road, the police intervened and started persuading the protestors to give up the protest.

The protestors wanted the government to reserve teaching jobs for qualified visually-challenged persons and relax the eligibility criteria for them and to hike the monthly assistance given to them from `450 to `2000.
