Heaven is a Palace filled with chocolate

CHENNAI: Tucked into the opulent lobby of The Leela Palace is  chocolate heaven. The Cake Shop’s ‘Death by Chocolate Festival’ is a little slice of happiness with hand rolled balls of praline, flavoured with green tea and blackberry to start with.

Follow that with French Macaroons with flavours that range from cognac paired with a dark chocolate to a passion fruit and milk chocolate combination. Ooh la la.

It doesn’t stop there. For those who just want a guilt-free chocolate explosion in their mouth, the flourless chocolate cake with a sponge cake-mousse texture is for you. It also happens to be a favourite of Pastry Chef Bhaskar Adeeb who finds it a healthy option for those cutting back on the calories. For a fruitier option, the Apricot and Hazelnut Cream Cheese Cake does the trick. The combination is chewy, nutty and pleasantly fruity. It’s definitely an innovative twist on the ingredient so popularly dubbed “the food of the gods.”

“Everyone likes chocolate,” says Bhaskar, adding “This festival is an opportunity to play around with one ingredient.” And play around with it they certainly have. So sink your teeth into a chocolate haze. Go on. We won’t tell.

‘Death by Chocolate’ is on till November 29 at The Cake Shop, The Leela Palace. Prices `90 onwards.
