Ex-chief Secy V Karthikeyan Passes Away

CHENNAI: Former chief secretary V Karthikeyan (90) passed away in the city on Thursday. He is the father-in-law of former union minister Jayanti Natarajan.

Entering the service way back in 1948, Karthikeyan had served in various departments and responsibilities for over 35 years before retiring in 1983. Chief secretary of Tamil Nadu during 1976-77, he also served as  adviser to the Governor for a brief spell.  He returned as chief secretary again in June 1977 and continued in the post till August 1981 August, by which time he had served under chief ministers M Karunanidhi and his political rival, MG Ramachandran.

He is survived by three sons, including former union minister and senior Congress leader, Jayanti Natarajan’s husband, VK Natarajan, and two daughters.

The funeral will be held at Besant Nagar crematorium at 1.30 on Friday.
