Man Kills Brother After Dispute Over Property

CHENNAI: A 40-year-old man was hacked to death by his younger brother over a property dispute, at Choolaimedu on Sunday evening.

Police said Mohan (40),  of Periyar Paathai, lived in a joint family with his two younger brothers and sisters. On Sunday, Mehanathan (26), the youngest brother of Mohan, came home in an inebriated condition and demanded his share of the property, leading to a verbal duel, which ended with Mohan assaulting Mehanathan. Insulted, Mehanathan took a hacksaw blade and slit Mohan’s throat. Since none was present when the incident occurred, Mohan was moved to a hospital almost after four hours. The doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Vadapalani police registered a case and arrested Mehanathan.
