Kolkata's KC Das comes to Chennai

CHENNAI: KC Das, the name that is synoymous with Bengali sweets in Kolkata, has opened an outlet in the city. Going by the crowd at the newly-opened shop on College Road, Nungambakkam, looks like the city has lapped up the lipsmacking fare.

Ahamed Jalaludeen, owner of the outlet, says that sales have been quite ‘crazy’ since the opening. With people making a bee-line for the shop from the time it opens at 11.30 am, famous bengali sweets — rasogollas and mishti doi — get over by early evening hours.

The Nungambakkam outlet shares its ECR production factory with its twin store at Shanthi Colony. According to the owner, they are still trying to understand the demand so that they can modify their production. With a dine-in facility at the mezzanine level, hot samosas and puris will be in the offing soon.

“People here are quite touchy about their rasogollas, mishti doi, sompapris and chamchams,” says Jalaludeen, as he admits that he might have to increase production as well as work-force to keep up with the orders.
