Beach Hawker Returns Lost Passports

CHENNAI: A woman hawker on the Marina beach played good Samaritan when on Thursday she returned a backpack containing passports of foreign nationals.

Fourteen passports belonging to a group of tourists from Sri Lanka were handed over to Anna Square police along with other belongings including a high-end mobile phone and 30,000 in cash by the woman after she learnt that a complaint had been lodged in this regard.

Police said a group of fourteen Sri Lankan nationals, including two who had permanently settled in Germany and the UK, had come to Chennai to attend the wedding of a relative in Valasaravakkam. On Tuesday evening, the group visited the Marina beach where they stayed till 8.15 pm.

After reaching their place of stay, the group realised that the backpack was missing. They returned to the beach around 8.45 pm and searched for the bag but could not locate it. Subsequently, they lodged a complaint at the Anna Square Police Station.
