Lifetime Achievement for K J Yesudas

CHENNAI: Renowned Carnatic vocalist KJ Yesudas was honoured with life time achievement award for music at the inaugural of the Chennai Cultural Academy Trust’s Music and Fine Arts Festival on Friday. Also Madurai Muralidharan and Kovai Padmanabhan were conferred Kalasironmani Awards for their significant contribution towards bharatanatyam and Tamil theatre. Industrialist Nalli Kuppusami Chetti presided over the event.  Ravi Viswanath, president, TCS, inaugurated the occasion. G Srinivasan, chairman, New India Assurance, distributed the awards. Former director Chennai Doordarshan A Natarajan, felicitated the personalities. The event also saw a bharatanatyam recital by Vidyalaxmi, disciple of Gayathri Balagurunathan. A variety of programmes including drama, dance drama, apart from vocal music concerts, will be held as part of the music season at Rama Rao Kala Mantap, T Nagar, till January 7.
