Six Years and Going Strong

CHENNAI: Prayathnam, the forum of dancer teachers, has completed six years successfully, and its president Sreelatha Vinod feels that this is the right time for them to talk about the forum. She said, “We have trained more than 1,000 students till date and there are 70 members with us currently. The network has been growing consistently. In fact, there are constant conversations, demonstrations and lectures by veterans that help teachers keep themselves updated.” Giving us information about the course material, Sreelatha said that the course material was a compilation of audio, video and notes. “There are six levels overall and we have students from across age groups attending the exams, which are being conducted in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy and Pondicherry, where we have our centres. Also, we have an annual day, wherein students showcase their talent,” she added. Lakshmi Ramaswamy, vice president, Himaja Ramsharan, joint secretary, Sasirekha Raammohan, treasurer and Sujatha Mohan, joint treasurer of Prayathnam spoke on the occasion.
