CHENNAI: The city police rescued a man from kidnappers within 12 hours of the incident at Anna Nagar here.

The victim Gulam Mohammad, who had been dismissed from his job recently, was going to his office at Anna Nagar to seek reinstatement on Friday when he  was bundled into a Mahindra Xylo by a three- member gang. The trio had approached Gulam and struck a conversation with him before kidnapping him.

Immediately after the incident was reported, four separate teams led by the Anna Nagar circle inspector was formed under the instructions of the  Commissioner of Police S George.

The team intercepted the Xylo during the early hours of Saturday and arrested Deva (30), Ramkumar (27) and Vignesh Kumar (29).

Investigations revealed that Gulam Mohammad had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh from Deva’s mother for his daughter’s marriage and did not return the money. So, an angry Deva planned the kidnap with the help of his friends, and sought the help of another woman Usha in order to try to lure the victim into the car.

The teams have spread a dragnet for Usha, who is still absconding.

Sleuths from the Enforcement Directorate, along with the help of the city police, zeroed in on a businessman from whom  Rs 1.2 crore in cash, suspected to be hawala money, was seized on Friday night.

Sources said the sleuths were asked to track down and detain one Siddique, who was into travel business, for recovery of hawala money. The man was found in his house at Angappa Naicken Street at Mannadi and the cash was confiscated.

Siddique was under surveillance by the sleuths who tipped off the local police soon after the cash moved to his hands. He has been taken to the office on Haddows Road for further enquiry in order to bust the network and also to locate the origin of the money.
