

CHENNAI: The new academic year took a new turn for quite a number of students with their induction into a book bank circle that lends educational books for needy college students based on merit.
The 51st annual book bank function of Rajasthan Youth Association (RYA) held at the Kamaraj Memorial Hall on Sunday saw as many as 2,300 new beneficiaries being added to this scheme of circulating college textbooks.
According to the Book Bank chairman Arvind Bokdia, this project has covered more than 87,500 students from several colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts in the past 50 years. The books distributed include courses ranging from Arts, Commerce and Engineering. Around 37,800 books were given in circulation the last year.
The chairman of the book bank also announced the launch of a job fair, to be conducted in the month of August, for the benefit of the student community.
Rajya Sabha member Ajay Sancheti lauded the role of Rajasthanis in Tamil Nadu saying that organisations like RYA have become great catalysts in building the career of many budding citizens of the country.
Abhaya Kumar Srisrimal, managing director, Shasun Pharmaceuticals Limited, lauded the RYA Book Bank project, and distributed books to the students.
Advocate Ramesh Kumar Gugaliya and Ashok Katrela, JC Jewellers, distributed awards to meritorious students and beneficiaries.
Rajendra Bokdia, president, and Prakash Jain, secretary, RYA, presided over the programme.
