MBBS Student Found Dead in Hostel Room

A first year medical student was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his hostel room at the Stanley Medical College on Wednesday night.

CHENNAI: A first year medical student was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his hostel room at the Stanley Medical College on Wednesday night.

According to Police, Sivasudalai Moorthy, 19, from Alangulam near Tirunelveli was doing his MBBS at Stanley and was a resident of the college hostel. With the college closed for study vacation, most of the students had left the hostel. Police are trying to ascertain the reason for the death.

The teenager was one of the few students who had not left for his native place during the vacation. On the night of his death, Sivasudalai was with his friends studying for his examinations till 2 am.

In the morning, Sivasudalai did not wake up even after 9 am which made the roommates suspicious. The panicking friends, after trying to wake up the unconscious student, eventually informed the hostel and college authorities.

The authorities in turn filed a complaint with the police after finding that the student had died. According to preliminary investigations done by the police, the student had been taking medicines for a recent eye operation.

The body has been sent to the Stanley Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
