Big Push for Livestock, Dairy sectors

CHENNAI: Livestock and dairy sectors in the State are likely to be beneficiaries of a qualitative push rather than a quantitative one this year, as per the indications of the statements made by the government in the Assembly on Friday.

Both sectors are set to receive a number of projects for the expansion of existing facilities, machinery and technology upgrades and management development intitatives. These were announced by Animal Husbandry Minister TKM Chinnayya and Dairy Development Minister V Moorthy, as part of their replies on the cut motions to the demands for grant of their respective portfolios.

Among the measures announced were improvement of standards of facilities at artificial insemination centres, training of rural youth to run the centres, setting up of 50 new veterinary sub-centres and setting up of cattle feed production facilities.
