CSR Entries Witness a Rise in 12 Police Dists

If you walk into any police station in the city with a complaint, you will definitely get the acknowledgement for the registration of your complaint in the Community Service Register (CSR).

CHENNAI: If you walk into any police station in the city with a complaint, you will definitely get the acknowledgement for the registration of your complaint in the Community Service Register (CSR). After the City Police Commissioner, S George’s, instruction that every complaint should be registered, the city has witnessed a three-fold rise in the entry of CSRs in across the 12 Police Districts in the City.

If you don’t get the acknowledgement for registration of your complaint, you can reach the complaint cell at 044-25615086 to lodge a complaint against the official who refuses to register it.

George, who chaired a review meeting with additional commissioners and joint commissioners regarding the registration of complaints, strictly instructed that the complainants should not be shuttled between the police stations, irrespective of the reason.

“If a complainant walks into the police station with a complaint, he/she should be received properly and the same should be registered with an acknowledgement for the entry in CSR, irrespective of the nature of the complaint. Depending upon the gravity of the issue, the case should be pursued by the Station House officer,” George told his top brass. “The cop in-charge of the police station should not dodge the complainant citing the jurisdiction or purview over the complaint,” he warned.

“It would instill more faith in the police as the cops own the responsibility to redress the grievances of the public,” a senior police official said.

Between April 22 and 30, 1,149 entries were made in the CSRs and it shot up to 3,235 during the period of May 22 and May 31, which is 282 per cent higher.
